MathCounts Outreach is one of the largest tutoring organizations at UGA. Our team of over 150 weekly tutors works with elementary, middle, and high school students in Athens-Clarke County. Whether it is helping them understand difficult concepts, providing supplemental practice, or doing fun learning activities, our tutors are here to help the students grow both academically and personally.
An Established Reputation
The resources granted to MathCounts Outreach from our sponsorship by the Jere Morehead Honors College have allowed us to have a tremendous impact on so many lives. We have been serving the community for over ten years, working with hundreds of tutors and even more students. Throughout these years and changes, our mission to help has remained steadfast.
The Inspiration
You may have heard of the national organization MathCounts Foundation. We not only share a similar name but a common purpose: "build[ing] confidence and improv[ing] attitudes about math and problem solving". Following the Foundation's lead, MathCounts Outreach at UGA practices many of their methods to help develop student's mathematical abilities. We work in small groups of students, allowing for more personal connections and attention; we provide supplemental, more challenging exercises in addition to help with problems the students have; we do fun educational activities with the students to make learning more entertaining and form a closer bond with them; and we host a yearly tournament for the students to put their hard work to the test.

I love building valuable connections and mentor-like relationships with the students. It’s so fun to see their faces light up when we walk in their classroom. They know we are there to help them and encourage them! |
What I like best about MathCounts is seeing the kids you tutor growing right in front of you. It's so rewarding to see kids improve their math skills so quickly! |
